Peripelvic cysts are a type of renal sinus cyst.

Two cases are described where the initial sonogram suggested the diagnosis of pelvicalyceal obstruction, and on subsequent intravenous urography the correct diagnosis of PARAPELVIC RENAL CYST: THE PERIPHERAL FAT SIGN ANDREW B. CRUMMY AND PAUL O. MADSEN From the Departments of Radiology and Surgery, University of Wisconsin Medical Center; and the Urology Section, Department of Surgery, Veterans Administration Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin Parapelvic renal cysts originate in the region of the renal sinus. Parapelvic cysts are uncommon and found in ∼1.25–1.5% of autopsy cases . Parapelvic cysts are usually solitary, originating from renal parenchyma and protruding into the sinus. Because of the hypoechoic character by ultrasonography and the special location in the renal sinus, parapelvic cysts are often misdiagnosed as hydronephrosis . These cysts are found in the cortex and medulla and typically are 1–2 mm in diameter.

THOMPSON IM. Peripelvic lymphatic renal cysts. J Urol. 1957 Oct; 78 (4):343–350. In a patient who had undergone emergency nephrectomy during exploratory surgery, a pathologic diagnosis of peripelvic lymphangiectasia was made. Subsequent computed tomographic examination of the remaining kidney showed large multilocular renal sinus cysts, renal capsular cysts, and regions of fluid attenuation surrounding the mesenteric vessels, findings consistent with peripelvic … Peripelvic cysts can have a sonographic appearance that is similar to hydronephrosis. Two cases are described where the initial sonogram suggested the diagnosis of pelvicalyceal obstruction, and on subsequent intravenous urography the correct diagnosis of peripelvic cysts was made.

Purpose: We describe and define the operative techniques, findings and results of laparoscopic ablation of peripelvic renal cysts. Materials and methods: One male and three female patients, ranging in age from 35 to 59 years, underwent laparoscopic ablation of symptomatic peripelvic cysts. All patients had symptoms of ipsilateral flank pain and obstruction.

A parapelvic cyst at times may cause compression of the pelvicalyceal system resulting in hydronephrosis. Parapelvic cyst can mimic hydronephrosis and so can be confused with pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction as the ureter in both conditions is not dilated. This could be well differentiated at the excretory phase of CT-IVP study ( CT urography) that demonstrates stretched (but not dilated) collecting system by the cyst in contrary to PUJ obstruction at which the contrast will be excreted

Summary— Nineteen peripelvic cysts with unusual findings are discussed. While usually an incidental radiographic finding, these cysts may obstruct the collecting system and yet not be apparent on n Cysts are probably the most frequent abnormal findings to be described in kidney imaging reports. If they are few and small in an elderly patient, they may be ignored as a natural aging process because incidence of simple cysts increase with age, reaching above 50 % after the fifth decade. Peripelvic cysts are thought to arise by lymphatic ectasia and are usually multiple and septated. Peripelvic lymphangiectasia is rare and is associated with perirenal lymphatic cysts, as well as perivascular cysts (probably dilated lymph vessels).

These cysts are found in the cortex and medulla and typically are 1–2 mm in diameter.

Kidney cysts can impair kidney function, although many are what are called simple cysts which do not result in health complications. Here’s an overview of what kidney cysts are.

They usually are multiple, small, and bilateral. They usually are multiple, small, and bilateral. The common peripelvic pathologic conditions are renal sinus lipomatosis and renal sinus cysts, both of which cause generalized effacement and stretching of the pelvicaliceal system at excretory urography (, 2). The uncommon peripelvic lesions include arteriovenous communications, renal sinus hemorrhage, urine extravasation into the renal sinus, and lymphoma infiltrating the renal sinus.

With the increased use of medical imaging, there has been an increase in the numbers of pericardial cysts identified. However, there is a paucity of data regarding the clinical course for pericardial cysts. Hence, we aimed to study the clinical features and natural history of pericardial cysts. We r …

Peripelvic cysts, parapelvic lymphatic cysts, parapelvic lymphangiectasia, and parapelvic cysts are a variety of terms that have been used to describe single or multiple cysts confined to the renal sinus (, 3,, 4).
